St John, New Brunswick
As we pull away from the dock, the wetness on the walls reveals how extreme the tide is. This is about an hour after low tide. The ladder on the wall has, according to my count, 21 rungs from the top of water marks on the wall to the surface of the water. If you figure the rungs are probably between 12 and 15 inches apart, we're looking at a range of between 21 and 26 feet.
